Here's How to Perform Wudlu and Pray when Treated in the ICU

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

What is the solution when a sick person is unable to move and is in the ICU, then he wants to pray? How about prayer and ablution?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you

The basic principle is: as long as life is still in the body, it is not permissible to leave prayer. Patients should try as much as possible to purify themselves and perform prayers. The trick is to purify yourself and perform movements and prayer positions as much as you can, even if it's not perfect.

This is confirmed in Alquran and the hadith of the Prophet SAW.

ا۟ للَّهَ ا "And fear Allah as much as you can." (Surat At-Taghabun: 16).

For patients who have difficulty moving, there should be someone who helps in washing and performing ablution. It can be a family or a nurse.

And for ablution, it doesn't have to be in the bathroom. Please use a spray with a small bottle filled with water and use it to spray water on the wudlu members.

If you can't, then do tayammum and use it for prayer.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
