Move over Indonesia, Pakistan, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world

Based on data released by the World Population Review, Pakistan is currently listed as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. This South Asian country replaced Indonesia, which had previously held this title.

World Population Review reported that the Muslim population in Pakistan has currently reached 240,8 million people. That number represents 98,19 percent of the country's total population. Indonesia is in second place, with 236 million Muslim residents, or 84,35 percent of the total population.

In third place is India, with 200 million followers of Islam. Meanwhile, Egypt, with a Muslim population of 90 million, is in sixth position, Turkey, with a Muslim population of 84,4 million, is in seventh position, and China is in ninth position with a Muslim population of 50 million.

The majority of Muslims live in North and Central Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. By 2024, Islam will have more than 2 billion followers and will become the second largest religion globally. [Source: RRI]
