Prayers for People who are Prolonged Sick or Coma

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

I ask you to teach me how to pray so that it is easier for people who want to die to die, Mr. Ustadz. Because I want to help my brother's parents who are sick. Has been unconscious for 3 days. His body was cold but still breathing.

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

Bismillah… Death is a certainty. If death has arrived, it cannot be pushed forward or postponed, even if only for a short time. Doing good deeds as much as possible and avoiding immorality is the most important provision to face death.

If we are faced with someone who experiences prolonged illness, even to a coma and so on, then we should wish the best for that person. Among the prayers are:

اللهُمَّ ا انَتِ الْحَيَاةُ ا لَهُ، ا انَتِ الْوَفَاةُ ا لِهُ

"O Allah, revive him if life is better for him. And leave him if death is better for him." (For sick men)

Or:

اللهُمَّ ا ا انَتِ الْحَيَاةُ ا لَهَا، ا ا انَتِ الْوَفَاةُ ا لِهَا

"O Allah, revive him if life is better for him. And leave him if death is better for him." (for sick women)

We can also read Yasin's letter to that person. As the hadith reads:

لِ ارٍ الله الَ : الَ النَّبِيُّ لَّى اللَّهُ لَيْهِ لَّمَ : “اقْرَءُوا لَى اكُمْ” اه وأبو اود)

From Ma'qil bin Yasar radliyallahu anhu, said: The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said: "Read (Surah) Yasin for people (who want) to die (among) you". (HR Ahmad & Abu Dawud)

Scholars consider it good to read Yasin for people who want to die because in it there are important points about monotheism, the day of resurrection, and good news about heaven for people who die in a state of monotheism.

Hope it works!

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
