Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

Should a Muslim woman when she wants to pray wearing a mukena?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you

Mukena or telekung in the everyday language of the Malays are clothes used for prayer for the people of Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia.

According to history, the Walisongo used to be in preaching, and because it was still in the early stages of Islam in Indonesia, they made a way to make people accept and not be too burdensome in carrying out worship. The condition of women's clothing at the time before Islam came and was known in the archipelago as Javanese women's clothing, namely in the form of a kemben or long batik cloth wrapped around the body without stitches.

Many of them also work in the fields helping their husbands. So an agreement was made: When praying, you should wear covered clothes, while outside you are welcome to do your activities as usual.

So the clothes that are used for prayer are the mukenas that are used today.

For Middle Eastern countries, they use a long hijab or pashmina in praying.

The summary is: when praying, you should cover your genitals perfectly, either by wearing a mukena, long headscarf, or pashmina.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
