Netherlands officially bans face veils

Anyone who wears a veil (burka / niqab), hat, or sarong that covers the whole face except nose and eyes or who wears a helmet that covers the head integrally, is required to pay a fine. That is the excerpt of the burka ban which was passed by the Dutch Cabinet on Friday (27/1).

Quoted Nederland radioMinister of Home Affairs Liesbeth Spies called the ban on the veil "very important" so that everyone can be known in public.

The Netherlands is the third country in Europe to prohibit the veil, after France and Belgium. Anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders has campaigned to ban the veil in parliament since 2005 and took effect in September 2011.

Muslim women are still allowed to wear the veil while in mosques or religious places. Those traveling abroad are also allowed to wear the veil, but only when they are in the airport waiting room. (Mel / Rnw.nl / ddhongkong.org). *
