Husbands Accused of Adultery, What Is Our Attitude?

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum, Chaplain.

Sorry, I want to ask. As women who are far from our husbands and families, how do we respond if our husbands are accused of adultery?

Salam,

Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Islam really respects one's privacy. Basically disgrace must be guarded. Not allowed to spread the disgrace of others. Unless, it is revealed in court for the sake of upholding the law. Moreover, adultery tends to be done in private, so it is very difficult to prove it.

Just as adultery is a very serious sin, accusing adultery is also a serious act. If not proven, the accusation turns back to the accuser.

Accusing adultery in the language of sharia is called Qazaf. Qazaf قذف literally means throwing stones or other things. Meanwhile, according to the term, accusing good people of committing adultery openly. To accuse in the sense of throwing allegations at someone without being corroborated by real evidence. Accusing other people of adultery without solid evidence is a crime and is haraam.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
