Hajj Implementation Time

(Serial study towards the pilgrimage season)

DDHK. ORG - The time for the pilgrimage has already been set special provisions. And may not perform the pilgrimage outside the specified time.

Allah SWT said in QS al-Baqarah/02:197,

Hajj is several months which are understandable, so whoever obliges (on himself) to perform Hajj in it (those months), then there is no rafats (mixing with his wife, making advances, and saying obscene words), there is no wickedness (saying or do something that violates moral and religious norms) and there is no objection in the pilgrimage. And whatever you do is good, (certainly) Allah knows it. Arm you! So, indeed, the best provision is piety, and fear Me, you people of clean, pure and bright minds!

It should be noted, the season or time of the pilgrimage is understandably several months, namely months Shawwal, Dzulqa'idah, and 9 Dzulhijjah, plus the 10th night, namely the night of Eid al-Adha.

The first verse above does not mention the word season or time in the text of the verse. This is to give the impression that the months themselves have a sanctity in them and due to the implementation of the pilgrimage at that time.

This impression, in turn, obliges everyone, both those who perform Hajj and those who do not, to respect it and maintain its purity by avoiding not only war, but also all kinds of sins.

The months that are understandable, namely months that have been known by the Arab community since before the Prophet Muhammad was sent. So whoever makes it obligatory on himself by setting the intention to perform Hajj in these months, let him know that there is no rafats, no wickedness, and there is no jidal, namely quarrels during Hajj.

The clause "in those months" indicates that the pilgrimage can be carried out even if it is not carried out during these months. Thus, the time of pilgrimage is not like the fasting time of Ramadan, which must be carried out from the beginning of Ramadan to its end, except for those who have an excuse (obstacle) that can justify changing their fast on other days.

Certain months that have been understood or known, among others, are the initial time to intend to perform Hajj. According to many scholars, the intention to perform Hajj before the months mentioned above is not valid.

On the other hand, even though the time is so long, namely 2 months and 10 days, there are nights where Hajj is not valid except on certain days, such as staying at 'Arafah which cannot be before the 9th of Dzulhijjah, nor after the rising of dawn. 10 Dzulhijjah.

This prolonged period of time, among other things, was intended to strengthen one's intention, prepare physical and spiritual provisions, and travel which until now—especially in the past—required quite a long time. [DDHK News]
