Prayers in an Emergency

woman-prayer-illustrationTANYA: Assalamu'alaikum, Admin, sorry I want to ask, how do we pray in the bathroom, because the employer does not allow it, and in every room there is a camera. My friend suggested in the bathroom to pray standing without bowing without bowing. Please explain, Admin, thank you.

ANSWER: Wa'alaikum greetings wr wb. Keep trying to communicate with employers and agents to allow prayers.

If the bathroom is large enough for prostration, then the “normal” prayer can be done in the bathroom, using a mat (prayer mat), especially if the “bathroom is dry”.

If it is narrow, pray in any position, then bowing and prostration is sufficient with gestures. Allah knows the circumstances and intentions of His servants.

"From Ali bin Abu Talib ra. Rasulullah SAW has said about the prayers of the sick: "If someone is in power to pray standing up, otherwise the power to pray while sitting. If he is unable to prostrate then just gesture with his head, but let it be lower than bowing. If he is not able to pray while sitting down, pray him lying on the right side facing the Qibla. If you do not have the power, pray on your back, both legs towards the Qibla. " (Reported by Ad-Daruquthni).

Rasulullah SAW was once asked by a friend of his how to pray on a boat. He said: "Pray in the boat standing up unless you are afraid of drowning." (Reported by Ad-Daruquthni).

Here are the procedures for praying in an emergency.

1. Sitting Prayers. Sit as in the initial tasyahud (sit iftirosy). For bowing, just bend over moderately. It doesn't mean sitting down. For the final prostration and tasyahud, sitting in greeting is the same as regular prayer.

2. Praying while lying down. The way of the foot is on the north. Head south facing the Qibla. For readings the same as regular prayers. For the movements it is enough with a head gesture or a wink.

3. Pray on your back. The feet are on the west and the head is on the east (if possible give the head a pillow so that the face is facing the Qibla). The movements are sufficient with the signs and prayer readings, there is relief according to ability. Allah knows best, bish-showab.*
