PMI Consultation: What Are My Obligations?

Question: What are my obligations as a foreign domestic worker (PRT) in Hong Kong?

Answer: To find out about their obligations as foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, Indonesian migrant workers must read the standard employment contract (ID 407, the work contract document which is usually colored green).

Based on the Practical Guidelines for Foreign Helpers issued by the Hong Kong Labor Department, the following is a summary of some of the provisions contained in the work contract, especially relating to the obligations of foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong:

Domestic workers work for a period of 2 years. If terminating the employment contract, domestic workers must submit a written notification to the employer a month in advance (one month notice). If not give one month notice, the domestic worker must give money equal to a month's salary to her employer. Domestic workers must also notify the Director of Immigration in writing and a copy one month notice within 7 days from the date of termination of his work contract.

Domestic workers are only allowed to work for the employer, place of work and place of residence, as well as tasks as written in the employment contract.

Domestic workers may not work for another employer, for other types of work, or work and live at another address.

Domestic workers are not allowed to carry out their duties to drive a motorized vehicle. [AR]
