Believe in Tarot Card Divination and the Haram Zodiac

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

Why do people like to read tarot cards or zodiac predictions? What is the law if we believe in the prophecy even if briefly, aka believe it is not really because we are more confident in God's decree? Is it a sin to shirk if you always hear the tarot card readings or the zodiac predictions?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

Bismillah... Maintaining the purity of aqidah is the duty of every Muslim. Among them is by not believing in predictions, either through the zodiac, tarot cards, or others.

Believing in predictions, be it a little or a lot, fleeting or continuous, is still unlawful. Because believing in it even a little or at a glance will still have an influence on someone's trustworthiness. Even though we are required to put our trust in Allah Subhanahu wata'ala.

لَى للَّهِ لۡیَتَوَكَّلِ لۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ {سورة المجادلة: }

"And it is in Allah that those who believe should put their trust." {Surat al-Mujadilah: 10}

The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam also said:

افًا لَهُ لَمْ لْ لَهُ لاَةٌ لَيْلَةً

"Whoever comes to a fortune-teller, then his prayer for 40 days is not accepted." (HR Muslim)

According to Imam Nawawi, the purpose of his prayer not being accepted for 40 days is that the person does not get the reward for his prayer during that time even though it is done. It's just that he is still obliged to perform his prayers.

But if he only comes to ask questions just to test and disprove the fortune teller's argument, then it is permissible.

But if he justifies what he said, then he has kufr (ashgar / small). As the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:

اهِناً عَرَّافاً ا لُ ا لَ لَى

"Whoever goes to a shaman or fortune-teller and confirms it, then he means that he has disbelieved in the Qur'an which was revealed to Muhammad." (HR Ahmad).

Hope it works!

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.
