Japan Launches Halal Rice

DDHK News, Japan - A group of small companies in Japan has launched a halal rice program. The rice offered is the Akita Komachi variety, especially for Muslim visitors to Japan.

Food companies in Japan hope to export high quality wheat to Islamic countries. This program started when the company Feed Innovation Inc. started a food business in Odate, Akita Prefecture.

As reported republica.co.id from Japan Times (22/1), the program is also supported by Hosana Kikaku as an agricultural company located in the city. The company has a rice production method that was certified as halal last August.

This certification is the first halal certification for rice in Japan. "We want Muslim tourists who come to Japan to enjoy authentic Japanese rice from Akita Komachi," said Koki Sato, (29 years) President of Feed Innovation Inc.

To get certification, his party submitted an application to a designated Islamic organization. Only then do they carry out an inspection of the production and processing systems.

Of course, halal food must be free from ingredients that are prohibited by Islam such as alcohol and pork. (ROLLER).*
