Almsgiving with Haji Mabrur

Once upon a time, Ibn Mubarok (Abdullah bin Mubarok, a great scholar from Khurasan) had a pilgrimage. After completing the whole series of pilgrimage, he fell asleep and dreamed. In that dream someone said, "O Ibn Mubarok, all those who go on pilgrimage this year are not accepted. All that is accepted is Ali's Hajj (according to other sources the man is named Muwaffaq). "

Ibn Mubarok was shocked, immediately woke up. "Astaghfirullahal'azhim," he muttered.

But then he fell asleep again and dreamed again, with the same dream. He got up again, startled. Accidentally, he fell asleep again Then dream again, the dream is the same again.

Ibn Mubarok in his dream was told that the man named Ali who was named Haji Mabrur lived in Basrah or Kufa, a province in Iraq.

Out of curiosity, who was looking after Hajj was Ali. Usually, people who have hajj are thought to be rich people. It turns out that Ali is a shoemaker.

Finally Ali was asked, "Ali, did you go to Hajj yesterday?"

"No," replied Ali.

"Didn't go for Hajj ..?" Ibn Al-Mubarak was even more shocked.

It turned out that Ali had intended to do the pilgrimage, and was supposed to leave that year, but did not go.

"Why don't you go on a pilgrimage, Ya Ali?" asked Ibn Al-Mubarak.

Ali also told the story of himself failing to go to Hajj. Actually he had already prepared provisions for Hajj (according to another source, for 40 years Ali had prepared provisions for Hajj with his wife. He also managed to collect 350 dirhams or silver money, the result of the shoe sole business). However, before leaving, his wife, who was craving, caught the scent of the neighbor's roasting meat.

"Husband, please ask our neighbors for this delicious smelling meat," asked Ali's wife.

Ali also replied, "Shame, can't ask. I'll just buy it. "

"No, I want it right now," replied his wife.

Ali finally went to a neighbor who was cooking the meat, who turned out to be a mother.

"Mom, may I have a little meat, for my wife who is craving," said Ali.

The mother replied, "No, sir. This meat is unclean to you. "

"So what?" asked Ali.

“This is a donkey carcass. I had to take it, I sliced the meat, because my child hasn't eaten for three days. So for us it is lawful, rather than my child dying. I roasted this meat, so that the smell of the carcass would not be felt. " Thus said the mother, explaining.

"Astaghfirullahal'azhim," muttered Ali.

Finally, Ali also took his Hajj savings and gave the money to the mother. "This is to buy food for the mother's child," said Ali.

Ali also canceled his pilgrimage.

But it turns out, Allah Ta'ala has given Ali the reward of haji mabrur, because of the goodness of his alms. The compensation for orphans, poor and neglected people is Ali's pilgrimage in the sight of Allah Ta'ala.

This story was conveyed by Ustadz Sukron Makmun, during a tarawih prayer ahead of the tarawih prayer in congregation at the Macau Taklim Indonesia Council (MATIM), Tuesday (14/5/2019)
