Hong Kong Demonstration in Bound, Indonesian Citizens Are Urged to Be Careful

HONG KONG - The political crisis in Hong Kong which was initially triggered by citizens' rejection of the extradition bill (RUU) continues and its escalation is getting bigger. After being hit by massive action for more than a month, Hong Kong is now threatened with demonstrations in volumes.

Since the last few days, posters have been circulating containing schedules for demonstrations to be held in various locations and regions in Hong Kong during the last week of July to mid-August 2019. Namely, Friday (26 Jui) at the Arrival Hall of Terminal I Airport Hong Kong , Saturday (27 July) and Sunday (28 July) at Yuen Long, Sunday (4 August) at Tseung Kwan O, Saturday (10 August) at Tai Po, Sunday (11 August) at Sham Shui Po, and Saturday (17 August) ) at Hung Hom Harbor.

Beyond this schedule, demonstrations are also planned to be held in Central and Sheung Wan, on Sunday (28/7/2019) tomorrow. However, as reported by the Hong Kong Press Freedom (HKPF), the police refused permission for the action in Sheung Wan. Meanwhile in Central, the police allow it with several conditions. Among them, the action must end no later than 11pm.

As stated in the schedule circulating among Hong Kong residents, on Friday (26/7/2019), hundreds of people dressed all in black staged a demonstration at Hong Kong Airport. And, as of this writing, action is also underway at Yuen Long, as scheduled. However, permission for this demonstration was not granted by the police.

Indonesian citizens (WNI) are also urged to be careful in responding to the multi-volume demonstrations that are currently hitting Hong Kong, a country where around 180 thousand Indonesians live and work. "Regarding the information circulating on social media related to the follow-up demonstration, all Indonesian citizens are advised to stay calm and be careful in carrying out activities in crowded places," the Hong Kong Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) appealed through its official Facebook page, Thursday. The Indonesian Consulate also appealed to Indonesian citizens to avoid activities outside the home after 21.00 or 9pm.
