The dome of the Jakarta Islamic Center Mosque is on fire, check out the chronology

DDHK.ORG – Dome Mosque di Jakarta Isamic Center (JIC) caught fire on Wednesday (19/10/2022) afternoon. The incident that hit the mosque in Koja, North Jakarta, has gone viral on social media.

JIC Public Relations Paimun Karim explained that the fire occurred after prayer Asr at around 15.15 WIB and the first fire burned from the west side of the dome of the JIC Mosque.

The wind, which was blowing strongly at the time of the incident, quickly burned another part of the mosque's dome body.

In less than half an hour, the main dome of the Great Mosque of JIC collapsed to the second floor. The ruins also reached the first floor of the mosque building.

"The rapid collapse of the dome may also be due to the heavy load of 12 Betawi fan lamps weighing one ton," said Paimun Karim as reported by Republika.co.id, Wednesday (19/10/2022).

Chronology of the Burning Dome

To deal with the JIC Mosque fire, eight fire engines were dispatched from the North Jakarta fire department.

The fire was successfully extinguished at 17.00 WIB. The fire is claimed to have been controlled so that it does not spread to other buildings in the vicinity, such as the Social Cultural Building and the Business Building.

There were no casualties from this fire. Several documents and computer equipment from the manager of the JIC Grand Mosque and other Islamic religious institutions were also successfully secured and transferred to the Library in the Social-Cultural Building.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be from the dome repair work activity. As of August 26, 2022, the Great Mosque of JIC is currently under renovation by PT. Dwi Agung Sentosa Pratama appointed by PT. Sindo Prosperous Partners.

North Jakarta Metro Police Head of Intelligence and Security AKBP Slamet Wibisono, in his statement, explained that on Wednesday (19/10/2022) afternoon, it started when construction workers were renovating the dome of the mosque.

“Workers from PT Dwi Agung Sentosa Pratama are remodeling the dome roof of the Islamic Center Mosque. Renovation using plywood material, "explained Slamet as reported by Kompas.com.

North Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. officers received a fire report at 15.24 WIB. Officers then immediately rushed to the location, arrived at around 15.31 WIB and began to extinguish the fire.

Currently, a police line has been installed to protect the fire area.

The JIC Mosque was built on October 1, 2001 and was first used for Friday prayers on September 9, 2002 and inaugurated on March 4, 2002.

This mosque stands on the former location of the Kramat Tunggak localization area of ​​10,9 hectares. The hallmark of this mosque is the span of the dome of the JIC Mosque which is claimed to be the longest without pillars in Southeast Asia. (DDHK News)
