The Netherlands is not safe yet, anti-Islam is still in the way

The Den Haag Court's refusal to arrest the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has yet to guarantee that the Indonesian government will be able to walk to the windmill country in peace.

RMS as the plaintiff is still making an appeal. Not only that, but next week, a new Dutch cabinet supported by the anti-Islam party, the Party for Freedom (PVV) led by Geert Wilders, will be formed. This party has successfully sold the issue of anti-Muslim immigrants.

Geert Wilders, in a talkshow on Dutch television, once firmly rejected the entry of Indonesian citizens to live in the Netherlands. This rejection is related to the party's anti-immigrant program from Islamic countries, including Indonesia.

As reported on the site Nederland radio, Wilders considers every country whose population is more than 50 percent Muslim is an Islamic country. According to him, anyone from an Islamic country, no matter what religion, cannot enter the Netherlands. Wilders emphasized that his statement also applies to Indonesia.

Wilders' attitude had invited strong reactions from the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Fanny Habibie. In fact, in an interview with the daily Het financieeledaagblad, Fanny had accused PVV voters of suffering from "mental illness, fear of Islam".

In the interview, Fanny then asked them to study Islam more. Fanny's comments became controversial in the Netherlands, until finally Fanny retracted his statement.

Now the PVV is negotiating with the Liberal Conservative Party (VVD) and the Christian Democratic Party (CDA) to form a new government. Wilders is not in the cabinet. However, through its party, the PVV will also determine the direction of future Dutch government policy. Immigration programs, including restrictions for Muslim immigrants, were also discussed in the formation of the new cabinet.

Even though it is the “fulfillment party”, PVV has quite a high bargaining value in the coalition. It is not surprising then that the PVV has a significant role in determining the policy direction of the new Dutch cabinet going forward. According to the plan, the Netherlands will announce its new cabinet next weekend. (Rnl / jpnn.com)
