If There Is Hell on Earth, It Is The Life Of Children In The Gaza Strip

DDHK.ORG - The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN Secretary General), Antonio Guterres, warned that the continuing attacks between Israel and militant groups in Palestine bring suffering to civilians. Therefore, at the UN General Assembly Session on Thursday (20/5/2021) he called on both sides that fighting must stop immediately.

"I am deeply shocked by the continued bombardment of air and artillery by Israeli defense forces in Gaza," said Guterres, quoted by AFP as explaining the round of gunfire which he said killed at least 208 Palestinians including 60 children.

The Gaza Ministry of Health recorded a higher number of casualties at 230, including 65 children.

On the other hand, he also could not accept the random rocket firing by Hamas and other militant groups into population centers in Israel which resulted in 12 deaths, including two children, and hundreds of injuries. Based on data provided by Israeli police, Hamas rockets claimed 12 lives, including a child.

Guterres likened life in Gaza to now as hell for the children there. "If there is hell on earth, that is the life of children in the Gaza Strip," he said.

The UN General Assembly was requested by Niger and Algeria, each of which is the chairperson of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab Group at the United Nations. [Source: CNN Indonesia] [DDHK News]
