Forgetting the number of rak'ah prayers and early Tahiyat

Assalamualaikum.

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

If you forget the number of rakats during prayer, for example 2 cycles should become 3 cycles, but when you are standing in the third cycles someone reminds you and then you remember, does that include adding more cycles of prayers?

Then, what about praying 4 cycles and forgetting whether it was the initial tahiyat or not in the second cycles, and we have entered the third roakaat?

Some say, we can just believe it is the second rak'ah and do the initial tahiyat. If it's like that, isn't it the same as adding more prayer cycles?

So, what to do when we forget the second rak'ah, is it tahiyat or not? Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

The scholars of Shafi'iyah, Malikiyah, and Hanabilah stated that if a Muslim is in doubt about the number of cycles of prayer that has been performed, he should stick to a more convincing basis, namely the least number, then complete the prayer with the remaining rakats that have not been done.

However, if they forget how many cycles they have done, do prostration shahwi.

This has been explained when the Prophet Muhammad SAW forgot the number of rakats when praying. After praying, he was asked by the companions, is there a change in the number of cycles of prayer?

Prophet Muhammad SAW replied, "I am only an ordinary human. I can forget as you forget. If I forget, remind me. If you are unsure about the number of rakats you pray, choose the most convincing one, and finish the prayer. Then do prostration shahwi. " (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
