DDHK.ORG - Israel and the two main armed groups in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, agreed to a ceasefire on Thursday (20/5/2021) local time, after 11 days of deadly attacks since May 10, 2021. A statement from the office of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was quoted as saying by AFP, revealing that the security cabinet had unanimously agreed to accept Egypt's recommendations and initiatives for an unconditional ceasefire.

"Reciprocity and unconditionality," read the statement, as suggested by the Egyptian mediator.

The Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups, which are the two main armed groups in Palestine, also confirmed the ceasefire in a statement that the action will take effect on Friday (21/5/2021), at 02.00 local time.

Fierce and deadly fighting between Israeli soldiers and militant groups in Palestine broke out since May 10, 2021. Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres in a general assembly session on Thursday (20/5/2021) asked the two sides to immediately stop fighting.

"If there is hell on earth, then it is the life of the children in Gaza," said Guterres.

The number of residents in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, who died as a result of the attack by the Israeli Army has now reached 232 people, including 65 children. Meanwhile, at least 1.900 people were injured. Hamas authorities said the vast area, which is now full of debris, has displaced around 120.000 people.

Meanwhile, the number of victims killed by Israel as a result of Palestinian militia rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip was recorded at 12 people. [Source: CNN Indonesia] [DDHK News]
