DDHK News, Canada - Reviving the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslim Toronto Canada commemorates the Prophet's birthday by supporting the poor. They try to carry out the Prophet's teachings about helping others by running soup kitchens in mosques and providing food to those in need.
"This (Rabiul Awal) is only the month of the Prophet's birth, but also the birth of Islam, so we choose to commemorate it by practicing the Islamic message of compassion and kindness," said Sheikh Faisal Abdur-Razak, Imam of the Canadian Islamic Forum, to OnIslam.net.
This activity involved mosques and Islamic organizations in the Greater Toronto Area. "We work with homeless shelters, senior programs, a number of community development programs, and go straight to the streets," said Sameer Subedar, the program organizer.
"Our aim is to honor the holy month of Rabi al-Awwal with service to society, as taught by our beloved Prophet."
The mosque doors are opened for local residents and those who need warm food. Organizers also provide food to nearby shelters, the homeless, and to impoverished areas in downtown Toronto.
Canadian statistics show that Muslims are the fastest growing religious community in Canada.
