Revoked Perda Miras, MUI Invites Islamic Organizations

The Ministry of Home Affairs revoked nine regional regulations, including the Perda on Liquor (Miras). Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi is considered too siding with alcohol entrepreneurs.

The news about the revocation of the Miras Regional Regulation was taken seriously by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). In the near future, they will take practical steps to respond to this decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"We will work together with Islamic organizations to unite our steps in addressing this matter," said the head of MUI, Ma'ruf Amin when talking with VIVAnews.com, Wednesday 11 January 2012.

However, Ma'ruf did not mention what steps would be taken with the Islamic organizations. "Anyway, there will be steps to respond to that decision," he said.

What is clear, he continued, is that MUI will hold a meeting with Islamic organizations to discuss this issue. "Maybe Saturday tomorrow to discuss what steps will be made. What is clear is that MUI and all mass organizations refuse, we will formulate it, ”he said.

The reaction to the plan to revoke this perda has been shown by the Tangerang City Boarding School Silaturohim Forum. They assess that the revocation of the regional regulation regulating the distribution of liquor in their city will have a new impact, namely social degradation.

The Tangerang Ulama will mobilize the masses to demand the annulment of the regional regulation. 10.000 students will take to the streets.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Reydonnyzar Moenek, said that as many as 351 regional regulations were revoked during 2011 because they were considered to be contrary to higher regulations. Nine of them are considered contrary to Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 3 of 1997 concerning Supervision and Control of Alcoholic Drinks.

"The revocation of several regional regulations is because they violate higher regulations and they are in accordance with the provisions," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Reydonnyzar Moenek, Monday night, January 9, 2012.

Therefore, if the local government disagrees and files a protest against the revocation of the perda, the Ministry of Home Affairs suggests conducting a judicial review at the Supreme Court. "It can be done," he said.

However, the Minister of Home Affairs, Gamawan Fauzi, denied that he had revoked the regional regulation regulating liquor in the regions. He said that what the Ministry of Home Affairs has done is only evaluating and verifying Regional Regulations to refer to higher laws.

"We provide input to the regions that make the Perda so that they refer to higher laws and do not violate higher laws," said Gamawan at his office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, January 10, 2012. (VIVAnews.com) . *
