Prosecutor Asks Insult Islam Released

Geert Wilders, according to the Public Prosecutor, must be freed from the group's defamation and accusations of inciting hatred and discrimination based on religion and race.

These are the court charges against Wilders in Amsterdam.

Prosecutors argued that the leader of the Dutch party PVV in several statements called for discrimination against Muslims, but he could not be punished, because he commented in the context of a political debate.

Last Tuesday, prosecutors ruled that Wilders would not be convicted on the basis of charges of insulting the group because in his statement he spoke about Islam and not being a Muslim.

Prosecutors put all charges on Kristeria to be able to argue that Wilders' statement violated the law. Several statements met a number of criteria, but none met all the requirements, according to court prosecutors Birgit van Roessel and Paul Velleman.

In allegations of insulting the group, the court made it clear that Wilders was talking about Islam and not adherents of Islam. (Radio Netherlands)
