Semeru Eruption: 46 People Died, 9 Missing

DDHK.ORG - National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) extending the emergency response period for the eruption of Mount Semeru to 14 days. This was conveyed by the Head of BNPB, Suharyanto, during a working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, December 13, 2021.

Additional time for the emergency response period to search for 9 residents who have not been found. "Until now, 46 people have died, nothing has been added. Then 9 were still declared missing, and this we added to the emergency response to 14 days to continue searching for these 9 missing victims," ​​said Suharyanto, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

The disaster emergency response period is a period of disaster management which includes rescue, evacuation of victims, property, fulfillment of basic needs, protection, management of refugees, and restoration of infrastructure and facilities.

Until now, said Suharyanto, at least 18 people were seriously injured due to the eruption of Mount Semeru. They usually experience burns due to being exposed to lava avalanches. A total of 12 other people were slightly injured. Based on the latest data from BNPB, as of Monday morning there were 9.374 residents who were still displaced at 123 points.

Refugee points include the districts of Lumajang, Malang, Probolinggo, Blitar and Jember. Centralized refugee posts with a large number of survivors are located in three sub-districts, namely Candipuro District with eight points with a total of 3.538 inhabitants, Pasirian with six points with 2.081 inhabitants and Pronojiwo with 4 points with 1.056 inhabitants.
