DDHK.ORG - An earthquake measuring 7,5 magnitude shook most of eastern Indonesia on Tuesday (13/12/2021). The earthquake was centered around Larantuka, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

As a result of the earthquake, which was quite large and felt for a long time, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had issued a tsunami early warning in Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), NTT, South Sulawesi and North Sulawesi. "Tsunami Early Warning for areas: MALUKU, NTB, NTT, SULSEL, SULTRA, Magnitude Earthquake: 7.5, 14-Dec-21 10:20:22 WIB," quoted from the BMKG Twitter account, Tuesday (13/12/2021).

Regarding the earthquake, the monitoring agency Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned that the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday afternoon had the potential to trigger a dangerous tsunami wave.

"Dangerous waves may occur around beaches located within 1.000 kilometers of the epicenter," the agency warned.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) also monitored the quake. The agency noted an earthquake measuring 7,3 magnitude struck eastern Indonesia.

The USGS noted that the earthquake was centered 100 kilometers from Maumere City, Maluku, with a depth of 18,5 kilometers in the Flores Sea. The USGS said the probability of triggering the death toll was low. However, the agency noted that the earthquake caused "secondary hazards such as tsunamis and landslides".
