Muslim women in headscarves attacked on British streets

A Muslim woman wearing a headscarf was attacked by a group of older white girls. They kicked him, pushed him to the ground, and pulled him in the face. From witness accounts, the attack had taken place on the side of a busy road during the day.

The BBC reported that Surrey city police said it appeared that the girl had been the target of the 11 January attack because she was wearing a headscarf.

A local police officer, Colin Strong, said the incident was being raised during a meeting with local police as an issue that could affect the community.

Detective Simon Egan said this incident occurred at Vicarage Road, and considered it the worst racial assault. "The girl was targeted while she was waiting for the bus," said Simon Egan.

He said the suspect kicked the victim in the leg, pulled her backpack, pushed her to the floor, threw her make-up in her face and tortured her. After the incident, the girl took her bag and ran.

"This is a gruesome attack in which the young victim has become the target of an attack which is completely baseless," said Egan. "It seems that the suspect has become a victim for no other reason but because he is wearing a headscarf," added Egan. (Mel / Bbc.co.uk./ddhongkong.org). *
