Wukuf is one of the pillars of Hajj that cannot be separated from this worship. According to the unanimous opinion of the scholars, standing at Arafah is the most important pillar among the other pillars of Hajj.
Rasulullah SAW said:
الحجُّ عرفةُ
Meaning: "Hajj is standing at Arafah." (HR at-Tirmidhi, Abu Daud, Ibn Majah, and an-Nasa'i).
Quoting the book Fiqhul Islam wa Adillatuhu by Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, most scholars are of the opinion, whoever misses standing, he is obliged to perform Hajj in the following year and slaughter a sacrifice.
Wukuf can be done in all places in Arafah. As the following words of the Prophet SAW:
"I will perform ablution here, but the whole of Arafah is a place for ablution." (Reported by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah).
As for the time of standing, it is based on the following hadith of the prophet narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasai, Ibn Majah, Al-Hakim, Al-Baihaqi, and Ad-Dailami.
Amen Amen عَرَفَةُ فَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ مِنْ لَيْلَةِ جَمْعٍ فَقَدْ تَمَّ God bless you
It means, “From Abdurrahman bin Ya'mar ra's friend, I witnessed the Messenger of Allah being visited by friends. They asked him about Hajj. Rasulullah SAW replied, 'Hajj is Arafah. Whoever finds the night of Arafah before the dawn of the night of Muzdalifah (the night of Eid al-Adha), then his pilgrimage will be complete,'” (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasai, Ibnu Majah, Al-Hakim, Al-Baihaqi, and Ad-Dailami
