This is the way to enter Islam

ASKING:

Assalamualaikum, Chaplain.

Ustadz, I want to know how to convert non-Muslims to Islam. Do you have to be taken to the mosque to meet the kiai, or what, Ustadz?

He hasn't said yes 100 percent yet. But if you look at his words, maybe because he still considered his family.

Salam,

shella

ANSWER:

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Islam is the only true religion and is pleased by Allah SWT, the Lord of the worlds. Allah SWT said:

إن الدين عند الله الإسلام وما اختلف الذين أوتوا الكتاب إلا من بعد ما جاءهم العلم بغيا بينهم ومن يكفر بآيات الله فإن الله سريع الحساب

“In fact, religion with Allah is Islam. People who have been given the Bible do not dispute, except after they have gained knowledge, because of the envy between them. Whoever denies the verses of Allah, then indeed Allah is very quick in reckoning with him. " [Surah Ali Imran: 19]

Obtaining Islamic guidance is the greatest blessing that Allah gives to a servant for his good and safety, both in this world and the hereafter.

If there is someone other than Muslim who wants to take guidance from Allah and convert to Islam, then that person is obliged to pledge two sentences of the creed as the most important requirement. The recitation of the two sentences of the creed can be carried out in a mosque, or any appropriate place, witnessed by at least two witnesses.

As for whether it must be witnessed by the kyai, ustadz, or ulama, it is more important to maintain the solemnity of the two-sentence creed, and someone can explain the meaning of the sentence and its current position as a Muslim.

If in Indonesia, to get a clear status or certificate that shows someone has converted to Islam, then he can do it at mosques, KUA, mass organizations which of course provide a certificate of conversion to Islam, which can later be used as administrative requirements for KTP or other population documents. .

Then, is it obligatory for someone who wants to convert to Islam to take a bath first? The scholars differed in this matter;

  1. The Maliki and Hanbali schools say it is obligatory, based on the hadith to convert to Islam, Qais bin 'Asim is as follows:

رَوَى قَيْسٌ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُرِيْدُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُرِيْدُ الْإِسْلَام (رواه أبو داود ، والنسائي)

Qais bin 'Asim narrated saying: "I went to the Prophet and wanted to (enter) Islam, so he told me to take a bath with water and bidara". (Narrated by Abu Dawud & Nasa'i)

  1. Hanafi and Shafi'i schools say it is not obligatory, but rather the sunnah.

This is based on the hadith when the Prophet Muhammad sent Mu'adz bin Jabal to become a missionary ambassador to Yemen. He said:

"Surely you will come to a people of the book, so invite them to testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. If they obey you for that, then tell them that Allah has obliged them to pray five times a day a night. If they obey you for that, then tell them that Allah has obliged zakat to them which was taken from their rich people and then given to their needy people. (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

This hadith does not mention the obligation to bathe, so some scholars argue that bathing before converting to Islam is sunnah, not obligatory. And this is the strongest opinion.

If someone thinks that an infidel who wants to convert to Islam must take a shower first because they are not familiar with the previous sharia bathing, then it can be answered that Islamic law does not apply to an infidel until he converts to Islam and becomes Muslim.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
