Croydon UK Mosque and Islamic Center Ready to Expand

Plans to expand and turn the mosque into one of Britain's Borough city landmarks are ongoing. Croydon Mosque and Islamic Center on London Road, Thornton Haeth, could be expanded to include a four-story extension to the back and two 20-meter minarets, taller than four stacked double decker bus.

Financed entirely through donations from worshipers of the mosque, the expansion of the building is estimated to cost around £ 500.000.

Shuib Yusaf of Croydon Mosque and Islamic Center said: “We are aware this is going to be quite important in Croydon. It should be a little unique, but not out of character for the area. We admit this plan is a little ambitious. "

The plan is that in addition to the construction of two 20m high towers, more space will be built for women worshipers to prepare for prayer, improve bathroom facilities and add more parking space.

"We hope to increase the capacity for 4.000 worshipers, but especially improve facilities for female congregations," said Yusaf.

He said this mosque serves the majority of Croydon's 25.000 Muslims. Friday prayers are usually attended by around 13.000 to 15.000 people.

The expansion of the mosque is expected to start before the end of the year. Yusaf added, development can be carried out in stages, depending on funding and planning. (Mel / Yourlocalguardian.co.uk / ddhongkong.org). *
