The Law of Marrying a Non-Muslim

If you marry a non-Muslim, what is the ruling from the point of view of Islam?

Thanks for the question. Several ulemas and Islamic organizations in Indonesia have issued fatwas related to interfaith marriages.
Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has issued a fatwa related to interfaith marriage at the 28th Congress in Yogyakarta at the end of November 1989. NU Ulama in their fatwa emphasized that marriage between two people of different religions in Indonesia is not legal.
Meanwhile, the Tarjih Council and the Tajdid PP Muhammadiyah have also issued a fatwa on interfaith marriages. Strictly speaking, Muhammadiyah clerics state that a Muslim woman is prohibited from marrying a non-Muslim man. This is in accordance with the letter al-Baqarah verse 221:
لَا ا الْمُشْرِكٰتِ لَاَمَةٌ لَوْ اَعْجَبَتْكُمْ وَلَا ا الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ يُؤْمِنُوْا لَعَبْدٌ لَوْ اَعْجَبَكُمْ لٰۤىِٕكَ ل لا
"And do not marry idolatrous women until they believe. Indeed, a believing female slave is better than a polytheist woman even if she attracts your heart. And do not marry polytheist (men) polytheists (to believing women) until they believe. Indeed, a believing male slave is better than a polytheist male even if he attracts your heart. They invite to hell, while Allah invites to heaven and forgiveness with His permission. (Allah) explains His verses to people so that they may take lessons."
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has also issued a fatwa whose contents are not far from NU and Muhammadiyah. This fatwa was stated in the results of the Second National Deliberation in 1980 MUI.
