HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Radio Television (RTHK) publication agency reported that tens of thousands of people filled the streets of Hong Kong Island on Tuesday (1/10/2019) afternoon. They marched from Causeway Bay to Central in an action prohibited by police.

The Civil Human Rights Front, which has mobilized up to millions of people in demonstrations since early June, canceled a planned march to Chater Garden in Central, after failing to convince the appeals board to overturn the ban. But on Monday (30/9/2019), pro-democracy figures had urged people to take part in today's action to coincide with China's birthday, despite police bans.

In Wan Chai, the group of demonstrators who had previously gathered at Southorn Playground joined the group parading from Causeway Bay. Lee Cheuk-yan, from the Confederation of Trade Unions, said between 100.000 and 150.000 people joined the parade. [DDHKNews]
