The Messenger of Allah Hijra: Journey to Medina (Part 6)

DDHK.ORG - When the search effort had begun to slacken and after 3 days the turmoil of the Quraysh had subsided, without bringing any results, Messenger of Allah and his companions were getting ready to go to Medina.

They both hired Abdullah bin Uraiqith, a guide who was mature and knew the ins and outs of the road. Even though he still embraced the religion of the Quraish disbelievers, they both believed in him and handed over 2 camels to him. After 3 nights in the cave, he was asked to come to the cave with 2 camels.

So on the night of Monday, September 16, 622 AD, Abdullah bin Uraiqith went to the cave. At that time Abu Bakr said, "By my father as a guarantee, O Messenger of Allah, take this one camel of mine." He chose the best camel for him.

Asma' bint Abu Bakr came with food rations for the two of them. But apparently he forgot not to bring a rope to tie the ration. Therefore, while he and Abu Bakr had climbed onto the camel's back, and Asma' was about to tie the food rations, he did not get a rope on the ration. He immediately took off his belt (nithaq) and tore it in two. One part was used to tie food rations and one part he used as a belt again. Because of that she was nicknamed Dzatun Nithaqain (woman who has two parts of a belt).

Then the Prophet left with Abu Bakr and Amir bin Fuhairah. Abdullah bin Uraiqith who became the guide took the coastal road.

The first road to take is to the south towards the Yemen road. Only then did it head west toward the coast, until after arriving on a road not used to be traveled by, the journey was directed northward near the shores of the Red Sea. This is a journey that few people take.

Ibn Ishaq has mentioned the places that the Prophet went through on this journey. He said, “When the guide left with the two of them, he took the road in the lower part of the Meccan plain, leading to the sea coast until he came to Usfan, continuing through the lowlands of Amaj. Abdullah bin Uraiqith asked permission about the road to be traversed. So he continued to guide the journey after being given permission to pass through Qudaid. The journey continues through Al-Harrar, Tsaniyyatul Mararah, Liqfa, Madlajah Liqf, Madlajah Majah, Marijih Mahaj, Marijih Dzil Ghadhwain, Dzi Kasyr, Al-Jadaid, Al-Ajrad, Dzu Salam, Madlajah Ti'hin, Al-Ababid, Al- Fajjah, Al-Arj, Tsaniyyatul A'ir from the right of Rakubah, Ri'm, then arrived at Quba'."
