Pay Zakat directly to the recipient or through an institution?

Question: which one is better, channeling zakat directly to mustahik (recipients), or through zakat institutions?

Answer: There are 2 ways to distribute zakat.

First, directly to the mustahik. This method can be done when we find a mustahik who really needs help. Where if the zakat we want to pay is channeled through zakat institutions, it will go through an administrative process which takes a little time, while mustahiks need immediate assistance.

Second, through zakat institutions. This method is relatively more effective than the previous method. This is for the following reasons:

The first reason, following the method used by Rasulullah SAW and his companions, where they pay zakat through amil-amil sent by Rasulullah SAW to houses.

The second reason is that the mustahik selection process is more objective, considering that zakat institutions have nothing to do with mustahik.

The third reason, the zakat channeled by zakat institutions to mustahik is much greater than if it receives directly from muzaki.

The fourth reason, zakat institutions are more accurate in making assessments and have sufficient tools to assess mustahik's needs, and are able to provide guidance in resolving problems suffered by mustahik. So that the assistance provided is according to the needs of the mustahik.
