Association: Employers Are Afraid to Let Domestic Workers Go Out of the House

News about a domestic worker (PRT) from the Philippines on Tuesday (18/2/2020) who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus was used as an excuse by employers not to allow their foreign domestic workers to leave the house on holidays. They argue, they are afraid of catching the disease from their domestic workers.

“Previously, many employers were willing to let their domestic workers go on holidays. But now they are really afraid that some domestic workers are infected and they bring the disease back to their homes, ”said Chairman of the Association of Foreign Domestic Workers Employers, Betty Yung, as reported by RTHK.

"Actually, employers prefer domestic workers to stay at home, rather than go on vacation," said Betty to Janice Wong from RTHK.

In fact, based on official statements from health officials, the 32-year-old Filipino domestic worker became the 19st Covid-61 victim in Hong Kong at her employer's house, because the family caught the virus first after the hotpot dinner at North Point. [DDHKNews]
