In his presentation, Samuel said that Philadelphia is a city that is friendly to entrepreneurs who want to start and develop their business. "Philadelphia has a lot of incentives for those who want to start a business here," said Chueh.
The incentives provided are in the form of soft loans (forgivable loans), grants for shop and office equipment, and withholding taxes for certain corridors.
"There are several zones and corridors for economic empowerment. If you have a business in low-income areas, then we also have special incentives for that, ”said Chueh. The city government of Philadelphia has also pursued business security by granting surveillance cameras (surveillance room) which is directly connected to the police station.
Additionally, Philadelphia is a very encouraging microbusiness venture. The city government is collaborating with Zip Kiva, a non-profit organization that uses crowd-funding to support microbusinesses.
"Currently there are more than 30 organizations that are trustees of Zip Kiva in Philadelphia," said Allysa Thomas, Zip Kiva Program Manager from Philadelphia who was also present at the discussion. Thomas also explained that getting a business loan at Zip Kiva is very easy, namely by registering on the Zip Kiva website and creating a Paypal account. All transactions will be made via Paypal.
