JAKARTA | INDONESIA - The National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BNP2TKI) will change its name to the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI). The name change is adjusted to the use of terms adopted by Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning Indonesian Migrant Workers.
This was conveyed by the Acting Head of BNP2TKI, Tatang Budie Utama Razak, during a Joint Working Meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian Parliament in Jakarta, Monday (4/11/2019). "The law regulates changing the name of Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). So, changing the name of this agency is in line with the law, "he said.
He explained, there are several new things that are regulated in Law 18/2017, as the latest law on sending PMI abroad. For example, agencies involved in the placement and protection of PMI are not only the central government and the private sector. But also local governments.
"Then the scope of services is not only with PMI and PMI candidates, but also to their families," said Tatang.
He also explained that later on, BP2MI would place more skilled and professional PMIs. At the same time, this agency will try to reduce the number of PMIs who have categories of domestic workers and those at high risk.
