Macau Successfully Cleaned From Corona Virus Outbreak

MACAU - In Macau there were only 10 cases of Corona virus infection (Covid-19). In comparison, neighboring Hong Kong, which shares borders with mainland China, has had 107 cases and 2 deaths related to the current epidemic.

"Now, Macau has no patients, zero serious cases, zero deaths and zero infections in hospitals," said Lei Chin-ion, Director of the Macau Health Bureau, as reported by SCMP.

The last Covid-19 patient in Macau who was declared cured was discharged from the hospital on Friday (6/3/2020). Incredibly, Macau has not recorded a single new case of infection in over the past month.

Since February 4, Macau has not recorded any new cases of infection at all. The success, said Lei, was thanks to the tireless efforts of frontline workers at the Health Bureau and support from other departments.

Macau health authorities announced that the 64-year-old woman who had just returned home was sent to a public health center for further isolation in the afternoon. With his release, it means that all 10 Covid-19 patients in Macau have recovered.

Since Macau confirmed its first case on January 22, swift and precise steps to combat the deadly virus have been praised by many. For example, a rationing system to prevent people from stockpiling surgical masks. Residents can only buy a maximum of 10 masks every 10 days at the designated pharmacy Corona in Macau.

Macau police also ransacked hotels and deported people from China's Hubei province, which is the epicenter of the spread of the disease.

To contain the spread of the virus, Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng also temporarily closed around 41 casinos and various entertainment venues, including bars, cinemas and massage parlors, for 15 days from February 4.
