Is there an obligation for girls to provide for their parents and siblings?

DDHK.ORG - Is there an obligation for girls to provide for their parents and siblings?

Peace, mercy and blessings of God

Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

If a daughter is already working and is able to support her parents, every month she always puts her salary for the family, the parent has several children, some of whom are already working, is there a limit for a daughter to support both parents and her brother and sister?

Thank you, Ustadz.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you

There are three reasons, which are usually women in Indonesian society to choose activities or work. That is:

  1. Due to the inability of the head of the family to provide a living, for example due to illness.
  2. Lack of income.
  3. Factors women's habit of working.

By law, a daughter is not obliged to provide for her parents and younger siblings. However, it is the obligation of the head of the family and his mahram who is an adult male or husband for those who are married.

As for if a woman works and gives her income to her family, then it is birrul walidain and charity in the form of alms for her younger siblings.

How much and how long does he provide for his parents? He provides a sufficient living in the form of food and clothing. As for the younger siblings, please be trained so that when they reach puberty they can earn a living.

If we can afford it while the younger siblings are studying religion at the cottage, then providing assistance and providing for their needs is highly recommended.

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
