Indonesia Jails Former Editor in Chief of Playboy Magazine

Indonesian authorities arrested former Playboy Magazine editor-in-chief, Erwin Arnada, and sent him to prison to serve a two-year sentence for committing an inappropriate act.

Erwin Arnada was arrested in Bali Saturday after he disobeyed three orders to surrender. He was then flown to Jakarta.

Arnada published the Indonesian version of Playboy magazine in 2006. The Indonesian version of Playboy does not contain nude pictures. The Islamic group took Arnada to court.

Defenders of the press were free to complain about Arnada's treatment. They said the photos of women wearing underwear in the banned magazines were not as sexy as the photos in other magazines in Indonesia.

Arnada was found not guilty by a district court, but the Supreme Court defeated that decision. (VOA News)
