Georgians Oppose Building Mosques

Residents of the town of Batumi, a resort southwest of the Republic of Georgia, oppose building a mosque in their town. "We are not against restoring a mosque in Ajaria or in any other part of Georgia, but we are very much against building a new mosque," said Murmar Dumbadze, who led the protest.

"We promise that if a new mosque is built, we will bulldoze it to the ground," he threatened.

The decision to build a new mosque in a Georgian resort was taken by the Georgian government - a country in the Russian-controlled Caucasus region - in collaboration with the Turkish government a few days ago. (Mel / Panarmenian.net / ddhongkong.org). *
