Finnish Muslims Lack of Mosques

Helsinski, the capital of Findland, is experiencing similar problems with other cities in Europe. The city, which is located in southern Findland, is home to 60.000 thousand Muslims.

The country did not expect the population development of the Muslim community to be so fast. As a result, the Findland government seemed nervous when they had to deal with its Muslim population.

Helsinki Muslims, like those in Moscow, lack places of worship. Currently, the country has only one official mosque. The mosque is located in Jarvenpaa, 40 km north of Helsinki.

The problem is that among the tens of thousands of Muslims who live in Findland, a small proportion are immigrants who come from Iran. As a result Findland Muslims are divided into two, namely Shia and Sunni. However, until now there has been no plan from the Findland government or the Muslim community to build a new mosque building.

As reported by one of the pages of Findlandia, YLE, Thursday (30/12), Shia Muslim Findland is facing the same problem as their Sunni brothers regarding the building of mosques. The buildings that are usually used are no longer sufficient to accommodate the congregation. The initial plan for the building which was originally located in Laajaslo, Helsinski will be moved to Mellunkyla. However, the plan was canceled and there is no certainty in the near future.
