livestock program dompet dhuafaDDHK News, Indonesia - Dompet Dhuafa (DD) launched the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Revolution (RPI) program on Wednesday (15/4) in Bogor, West Java. This program to empower local breeders is rolled out in collaboration with the Damandiri Foundation and the Indonesian National Council for Social Welfare (DNIKS).

The objective of the RPI program is to achieve food sovereignty and security through the provision of domestic protein sources. The program also tries to increase the number of local livestock with a target of 100 thousand livestock in two years (one million cattle in five years) and provides opportunities for breeders to own and increase income.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dompet Dhuafa, Parni Hadi, said that the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Revolution was rolling on the background of the country's condition which still imports livestock from abroad. In fact, Indonesia has extensive livestock land and all other potential for livestock self-sufficiency.

"Every year during Eid al-Qurban, how many million goats, sheep and cows have been slaughtered, but why has this country never achieved livestock self-sufficiency? To have a good system in the livestock sector, there needs to be a revolution, "said Parni Hadi.

Parni added, this livestock revolution could be part of efforts to achieve food and energy sovereignty. Food and energy sovereignty can be achieved at the same time because food is also a source of energy.

"Food sovereignty includes meat self-sufficiency, of course. To achieve meat self-sufficiency, careful planning is needed. This can be started with small steps as has been initiated Dompet Dhuafa through the Sacrificial Animal Spread Movement (THK) and the Nusantara Livestock Kampoeng program since 20 years ago, "he explained.

President Director Dompet Dhuafa, Ahmad Juwaini, explained, Dompet Dhuafa will conduct farm assistance for 3-4 months with the breeders.

These breeders will be taught to manage livestock, breed, and make healthy livestock so that they will produce quality livestock.

"We have assisted more than 1.000 breeders in various areas such as Java and its surroundings. Hopefully with the presence of the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Revolution program we can expand the empowerment network for breeders throughout the archipelago, "he explained.

Ahmad added that the launch of the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Revolution program is an effort to collaborate with and cooperate with various parties to care about the fate of livestock in Indonesia.

Chairman of the Damandiri Foundation, Haryono Suyono, said full support and appreciation would be given to Dompet Dhuafa. According to him, Dompet Dhuafa He has more than 20 years of experience in livestock raising programs so that the potential that is already owned will be channeled to the villages while building farms managed by poor families.

"I believe, Dompet Dhuafa have experts who are able to carry out this program, so that later many breeders will be helped, and Indonesian breeders will be increasingly empowered. " he hoped. (Dompetdhuafa.org). *
