Banking problems have not been encountered in the past. However, the Salaf scholars have agreed that usury is forbidden.

In modern times like today, an institution that operates in the financial sector has emerged by looking for customers to save and deposit their money in the bank, which later they will get an excess or profit.

Banks also provide loans in the form of money to the public with excess returns. The two advantages or advantages above are commonly referred to as interest.

Although bank interest in Arabic is called faidah (فائدة) or something that is useful and contains a positive meaning, but actually it is only a cover which is actually usury in terms of Islamic law. In fact, usury is forbidden and is a major sin.

Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala says:

لَّ اللَّهُ الْبَيْعَ الرِّبَا

"And Allah has permitted trading and forbidden usury." {Surat Al-Baqarah (2): 275}

Among the types of usury in banking is the interest on savings deposits. If someone has already saved savings in the form of deposits, then for him to take the money when the time has come to take it.
Because actually the origin of the money that is saved is halal if it comes from halal. As for taking interest from it, the scholars differ on this.

Sheikh Utsaimin was of the opinion that it is illegal to take interest on savings from banks because of usury. So the interest is left alone in the bank.

Meanwhile, other contemporary Ulama such as Sheikh Yusuf Qardlawi are of the opinion that it is permissible to take interest from the bank as long as it is not used for personal interests, but is given to other parties who are more useful, such as public facilities, etc.
However, this does not include charity that gets a reward, because the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:

لاَ لُ لاَةٌ لاَ غُلُولٍ (رواه لم)

"Salat is not accepted without purification, nor is almsgiving from ghulul (haram property)." (HR. Muslim)

He is of the opinion that it is because allowing interest to remain in the bank is feared that the property will be used for other interests, which in fact have a greater harm (danger).

As for giving it to the poor, some scholars allow it. However, to be more careful, we should not use the assets from bank interest for purposes that will enter the stomach, such as to buy food or drinks, but may be given for other purposes.

The interest money may be used to build public facilities such as roads, bathrooms, toilets, etc. As for the facilities directly related to worship, such as mosques, waqf Al-Quran, and the like, it is not allowed.

It is safer for us not to save in non-Islamic conventional banks.

Hope it is useful…

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
