Again, There's Snow in Saudi Arabia

DDHK.ORG - Saudi Arabia is synonymous with hot weather. But who would have thought, on Saturday, January 1, 2021, one of the cities in the west of the country, Tabuk, was drenched in snow.

No doubt, as reported Indonesian CNN from AP, many people flocked to Jebel Al Lawz to enjoy this rare phenomenon. Jebel Al Lawz is a mountain located in northwest Saudi Arabia, Tabuk Province. The mountain is near the Jordanian border, about 200 kilometers northwest of the city of Tabuk.

More snow fell in Jebel Al Lawz as well as the mountainous areas of Al Dhahir and Alqan the following morning. Temperatures in both areas are expected to drop below zero degrees Celsius.

In 2021, snow also covered several cities in northern Saudi Arabia. The last time the kingdom was hit by heavy snow was in 2018. At that time, local residents and tourists alike did fun snow activities such as sledding and snowball fighting.

Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, was also covered in snow in May 2009. [DDHKNews]
