The Nature of the Prophet's Prayer: Standing for the Able (Part 3)

DDHK.ORG - The practice of praying from the time of our ancestors to the present day generally uses the standard of prayer described by the Shafi'i school of thought. This is because the majority of the Indonesian population is generally the Shafi'i school of thought. The scholars who spread Islam in the archipelago, of course, were also scholars of the Shafi'i school of thought. So automatically the practice of prayer is based on the fiqh of the Shafi'i school of thought.

Through this series of articles, DDHK News describes the nature of the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad based on the Shafi'i school, as written by Muhammad Ajib, Lc., MA. in his book "Sahih Evidence of the Prophet's Prayer Ala Madzhab Syafi'iy".

Standing position when praying 5 times a day for those who are able to stand up is obligatory. As long as you can stand, you can't pray while sitting.

As for the sunnah prayer, it is permissible to pray while sitting, even if you are still able to stand.

The first proposition: In the matter of standing for those who are able, the Shafi'i school uses a valid argument narrated by Imam Bukhari, "From a friend of Imran bin al-Hasin radhiyallahu anhu, the Prophet said: Pray standing up, if you can't then sit down, If you can't, then you can lie down." (Hadith narrated by Bukhari).

The second argument: As for the problem of praying sunnah while sitting even though you are able to stand, the Shafi'i school uses a valid argument narrated by Imam Bukhari, "From the friend of Imran bin al-Hasin radhiyallahu anhu, indeed the Prophet said: Whoever prays standing up then it more afdhal than praying while sitting, and the one praying while sitting gets half the reward of the prayer while standing, and whoever prays lying down gets half the reward for the one who prays sitting down.” (Hadith narrated by Bukhari).
