Late Waking How to Do Fajr Prayer?

Assalamualaikum. Ustadz, I want to ask a question.

If you miss the time for Fajr prayer, and at 6 (sunrise time) you just wake up, how do you do the prayer?

Thank you for your answer, Chaplain.

Greetings, Fulanah

ANSWER:

Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarokaatuh.

Bismillah... If a person forgets, falls asleep, or wakes up late and has not done the Fajr prayer, then he must immediately do the Fajr prayer, even at the time that is forbidden, namely at sunrise. Indeed the Messenger of Allah forbade a person to pray at sunrise until the sun rises and is white. Usually, the time from rising to rising is about 10 to 15 minutes. However, under certain conditions, a person may pray at sunrise (thulu') such as making up the Fajr prayer because he forgot or fell asleep.

This is based on a hadith from Anas bin Malik, that the Prophet said:

لَاةً، نَامَ ا، ارَتُهَا يُصَلِّيَهَا ا ا (متفق ليه)

"Whoever forgets to pray or falls asleep so that the time for prayer is missed, then his redemption is that he immediately prays when he remembers." (Hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).

Abu Qotadah once told that the Prophet used to travel with his companions until he decided to rest somewhere. However, he was worried that if everyone slept, his Fajr prayer would be late, considering that the time had entered the end of the night.

However, Bilal's friend was willing and promised not to sleep and would wake the group up. Apparently, Bilal's friend was tired and fell asleep too.

When the sun had risen and was slightly rising, the Messenger of Allah became the first person to wake up and collect Bilal's promise. Bilal also apologized to him for his negligence.

Rasulullah accepted Bilal's forgiveness and immediately ordered him to call the call to prayer. Then they did the sunnah prayer of 2 rakaat and continued with the Fajr prayer.

So, the intention to do the Fajr prayer for those who oversleep is qodlo', because it is over and the time is out.

If pronounced it is as follows:

لي الصبح ل القبلة اءً لله الى

“Ushollii fardlosh shubhi rok'ataini mustaqbilal qiblati qodloo'an lillaahi ta'aalaa.”

Wallâhu a'lam bish-showâb.

Regards!
