Benefits of Prostration in Prayer for Health

DDHK. ORG - Sujud is not just any prostration. Prostration in the movement of worship prayer have benefits health which is not kidding.

Clinical hypnotherapy expert Dr. Aisah Dahlan as reported Republika said, the position of prostration in prayer helps blood flow filled with nutrients more profusely to various parts of the brain including the prefrontal cortex.

The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that is located at the front of the frontal lobe and is responsible for a variety of complex behaviors including planning and greatly contributes to the development of one's personality.

In a webinar with the theme "The Main Message of Ramadan for Her People", the woman who serves as Chair of the Indonesian Social Drug Rehabilitation Association (Airi) said that the position of placing her forehead on the ground also drains blood in the parietal lobe.

This part of the brain lies behind the frontal lobe and controls sensations such as touch, pressure, pain, temperature and spatial orientation or understanding of size, shape and direction.

"According to neuroscience, this is the location of knowledge, skill (front of the brain) and during this prostration, blood that rarely goes this way will rush here to provide nutrition, vitamins and so on. Then in the periotalis lobe there is a location of character and talent, if the blood prostrate will come here," he said.

For those who cannot do this position during prayer, they can do it in a sitting position with their back slightly bent.

“Because if you are in a sitting or standing position, the blood flowing to the area is not heavy. This is why scientists say that this position is extraordinary, even though it doesn't take 24 hours, but a few seconds, minutes," Aisah said.

A pilot study in Basic and Clinical Neuroscience in 2019 showed that prostrating yourself facing the Qiblah for 10 seconds has an effect on brain activity.

"In Ramadan, of course we prostrate more than in other months, even though after Ramadan we are still asked to join the Ramadan curriculum again. Even if you forget, in the next Ramadan it will be strengthened again," he said. [DDHK News]
