New Territories West Total Darkness Due to Fire on Electric Cable Bridge in Yuen Long Fire

DDHK.ORG - The New Territories West region was hit by a massive power outage on Tuesday evening, June 21, 2022, after a fire broke out at the electric cable bridge belonging to CLP, the Hong Kong power company, located on Kwong Yip Road in Yuen Long at 19.12:XNUMX p.m. As a result of the incident, it was reported that many residents were trapped in elevators and the disruption of hospital and train services.

"The location is right under the Long Ping MTR station, near Exit A and B, above the river," said Erni, a member of the Volunteer Team Dompet Dhuafa Hong Kong who lives in Yuen Long.

Many people living in the Yuen Long area reported that they heard several explosions from the fire site. The video of the bridge burning ferociously and then collapsing has gone viral on social media.

Erni herself shared the video of the fire on social media. "I was right next to the TKP (the crime scene)," he said.

Commuters at Long Ping MTR station are reported to have reported the fire to police shortly after thick smoke billowed into the sky and street lights began to go out. The Fire Department was immediately on the scene and urged residents not to use the elevator. Local authorities received dozens of reports of people trapped in elevators.

As a result of this incident, the MTR service between Tsuen Wan West and Tuen Mun stations was temporarily interrupted, and Tin Shui Wai Station was temporarily closed. The Hospital Authority said services at Tuen Mun Hospital, Pok Oi Hospital and Tin Shui Wai Hospital had been affected, due to unstable power supply. It said some patients may have to be transferred to other hospitals.

In a statement, CLP said it was carrying out emergency repairs and apologized for the power outage that had to be carried out in the New Territories West area.

Hong Kong's power company said electricity would first be restored to hospitals and trains. The Department of Cultural and Leisure Services said sports facilities and swimming pools at Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai had closed early due to the power outage. [Source: RTHK] [DDHKNews]
