OIC Curses Burning of Mosques in West Bank

Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu condemned the attack by Jewish extremists on a mosque in the southern Bethlehem village of Beit Fajjar in the West Bank as outrageous. The attack was judged to be a violation of the Geneva Conventions and international law.

Reported Ahlul Bayt News Agency, he said, the settlers desecrated mosques, burned copies of the Quran, and wrote racist slogans on the walls and it was a violation of the freedom of worship and the sanctity of the holy place.

Ihsanoglu emphasized that Israeli settlement activity on Palestinian land is a violation of law and a flagrant violation of international law, and it is a real obstacle to the peace process.

He called on the international community to force Israel to stop all forms of settlement activities and violations of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian lawmaker from Hamas in the West Bank said the settler attack on the Fajjar Beit mosque came hours after an Israeli military Israeli security delegation, led by Chief of Staff Gaby Ashkenazi, met Palestinian security forces under Mahmoud Abbas' rule in the West Bank.

The lawmaker said in a statement Monday that what prompted settlers to burn down mosques was security coordination between the Israeli occupation forces and the Palestinian Authority. According to him, the campaign to arrest members of Hamas and other resistance factions has opened the door for Jewish settlers to attack mosques in the West Bank. (Mel / ddhongkong.org). *
