Often Dizzy in the Morning, This is the Cause

DDHK.ORG - Do you often feel weak and dizzy when you wake up in the morning? If so, let's identify the following causes.

First, dehydration. Lack of body fluids can be one of the causes of waking up with a spinning head or dizziness.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, when you don't get enough fluids, your blood volume decreases and your blood pressure drops. As a result, your brain doesn't get enough blood, and you feel dizzy.

To reduce dizziness from dehydration, you will need to replenish fluids, so drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Second, low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. When you don't have enough glucose (which is your body's main fuel source), your systems slow down to protect themselves, including your brain, according to Harvard Health Publishing. That's why you may wake up dizzy or even a little confused.

According to the Mayo Clinic, other symptoms of low blood sugar include:

  1. Irregular or fast heartbeat.
  2. Fatigue.
  3. Pale skin.
  4. Worry.
  5. Sweating.
  6. Starving.
  7. Irritability.
  8. Tingling or numbness of the lips, tongue, or cheeks.

To solve this problem, you may just need to eat or drink something sweet like a glass of orange juice.

Third, side effects of taking certain drugs. For example, hypertension medications can lower your blood pressure too low, causing dizziness.

In addition, diuretics can cause dehydration, which, as we already know, can cause dizziness, according to Harvard Health Publishing.

If you think your medication is making you dizzy, talk to your doctor, who may be able to adjust your dose or prescribe another medication.

Fourth, vertigo. If you wake up with the sensation of the room spinning, you may experience vertigo, which is often caused by an inner ear problem.

“The semicircular canals in the inner ear have fluid that moves when our head moves, and sometimes stone formations (called otoliths) interfere with the flow of fluid. This disturbance causes dizziness.”

To treat vertigo, see your doctor, who may choose to perform the procedure.

Fifth, wake up too soon. When you jump out of bed too quickly, you may notice that your head feels a little fuzzy. Indeed, waking up suddenly from a supine to an upright position can make the head dizzy and the room feels spinning.

It is often caused by orthostatic hypotension, a sudden drop in blood pressure that can occur when a person stands up. In addition, this problem becomes more common with age.

Take your time. Getting out of bed gradually will help your body adjust to the change in position and remain stable. This method is especially important for the elderly, because dizziness can increase the risk of falling. [Source: CNN Indonesia] [DDHKNews]
