Muraqabatullah

Muraqabatullah

Allah SWT says, “It is He Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods: Then He resided above the 'Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it and what descends from the heavens and what ascends to Him. And He is with you wherever you are. And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do." (Sura Al-Hadid Verse 4)

Rasulullah SAW also said, "Fear Allah wherever you are. Accompany the evil that you have done with good, which will be able to erase the evil. And treat other people with good morals." (HR. Ahmad)

Introduction: the story of Umm Amarah

Al-Hafidz Ibn Asakir in the Book of Dates Dimasyq narrates that at the time of Umar bin Khattab there were many frauds committed by milk sellers. They mix milk with water to get more profit. Umar also forbade it and ordered his people to announce in the markets of Medina.

Once upon a time, at night, Umar was going around controlling the atmosphere and condition of his people in a dark and lonely night, he heard a woman talking to her daughter.

"My son, try you mix the milk with water!"

"Mother, I have never heard of the firm opinion of Amirul Mu'minin (Umar bin Khattab) like this," replied her son.

The mother asked, "What exactly do you mean by the steadfastness of an Umar, my son?"

"The voice that called him said, milk should not be mixed with water," replied his son.

The woman selling the milk said, “Never mind my son, quickly mix the milk with water! You're in a safe place. Umar will not know what you are doing. Nobody reported that to Umar."

Hearing her mother's words, the girl said, "Mother, even though Umar bin Khattab does not know it, but by Allah I am very respectful and obedient to Umar, both in front of the crowd and behind him."

Hearing her mother's words, the girl said, "Mother, even though Umar bin Khattab does not know it, but by Allah I am very respectful and obedient to Umar, both in front of the crowd and behind him."

The next day, after getting up early, Umar said to Ashim, his son. “Ashim, go somewhere in this area. You will meet a girl. If she is not busy working, then marry her to be your wife. May Allah give you offspring from him," said Umar.

Umar's hunch was effective and precise. It turned out to be true, in the end his son married the daughter of the milk seller. They were given the gift of godly offspring. Isti Ashim gave birth to a daughter who was later married by Abdul Aziz bin Marwan. The result of this marriage finally gave birth to Umar bin Abdul Aziz who was known as a just caliph.

Introduction: the story of Ibn Umar and the goat herder

It is narrated by Abdurrahman Ibnl Jauzi in the book of Nature Shofwah that when Abdullah bin Umar RA and his best friend were eating, a shepherd boy passed by. Abdullah bin Umar RA, called the boy, and invited him to join the meal together.

"O little shepherd boy, come here!" said Abdullah bin Umar RA. Slowly his small steps continued to approach Abdullah bin Umar RA's place to eat with friends.

"Come, eat with us," he continued.

"Thank you, but I'm fasting," replied the shepherd boy.

"O shepherd boy, on a day so hot like this you fast while herding goats too?" said Abdullah bin Umar RA.

"Master, the hellfire is even hotter," replied the boy.

"You're right. In that case, may we buy a goat from you?” said Abdullah bin Umar RA.

"These goats do not belong to me, but to my master," replied the shepherd boy.

Abdullah then said: “You can sell one of the goats. Then the money from the sale you can buy what you need. We eat the meat together. Next, just tell your master that the wolf has eaten the goat. Moreover, your employer does not see it, of course he will believe your words. How do you agree?” said Abdullah bin Umar RA.

"Then where is God? Where is God?” replied the shepherd.

Abdullah bin Umar RA cried hearing the words of the shepherd boy.

"Where is God?" said Abdullah bin Umar RA while crying.

Then, Abdullah bin Umar RA bought all the goats the owner of the shepherd boy. He gave the goats to the shepherd boy.

What is muraqabatullah?

Muraqabah literally means to supervise, monitor, pay attention.

لَا يَحِلُّ لَكَ النِّسَاءُ بَعْدُ لَا لَ مِنْ اجٍ لَوْ لَّا ا لَكَتْ انَ اللَّهُ لَىٰ لِّ رَقِيبًا

"It is not lawful for you to marry women after that and it is not permissible (also) to replace them with (other) wives, even though their beauty attracts you except the women (servants) that you have. And Allah is All-Way of all things. (Surat al-Ahzab: 52)

The term muraqabah means the belief of a servant and his belief that Allah is always watching him physically and mentally. There is nothing that is separated from the supervision of Allah SWT.

Ibnul Mubarak once said to someone: "Make Allah always watch over you." The person said: “What do you mean?” Ibn Mubarak replied: "Be as if you always see Allah."

Al-Harith Al-Muhasibi was asked about Muraqabah, then he replied: "Knowing in your heart that Allah is always close to you."

Benefits of muraqabatullah

  1. Evidence of faith. "Three things when someone does it he will taste the sweetness of faith: (1) A person worships Allah alone, there is no god but Him, (2) A person pays zakat mal every year, does not give out the old, the bad, or the bad. sick. However, it is paid out of your middle wealth, because Allah does not ask you for the best, nor does he rule the worst. (3) One cleanses one's soul." Someone asked, "What does it mean to cleanse his soul?" Rasulullah n replied, "He believes that Allah is with him (watching and knowing) wherever he is." (Narrated by ath-Tabarani and al-Baihaqi)
  2. Give birth to piety. "O mankind, fear your Lord who created you from a single person, and from him Allah created his wife; and from them Allah multiplied many males and females. And fear Allah who by (using) His name you ask one another, and (maintain) friendly relations. Verily Allah is always watching over you and watching over you. (Surat an-Nisa: 1)
  3. Cultivate shame. "Shame on Allah with shame," said the Messenger of Allah. Hearing the Messenger of Allah say, then the companions said, "O Prophet of Allah, indeed we have felt ashamed. WL." Then the Messenger of Allah said: That's not what I meant! However, ashamed of the real God, you guard your head with all that is in it, guard your stomach with all that is in it, and always remember death with all its torments. Whoever does all that, he has felt ashamed of Allah in truth." (HR Tirmidhi and Hakim)
  4. Avoid immorality. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "The angels said: Your servant intends to do evil. Yet his Lord is more vigilant than he is. Then He (God) said: Watch over him; if he commits (evil), write it in his name but if he refuses to do it, write one good deed for him, for he stops doing it out of fear of Me.” (Narrated by Bukhari).
  5. Improve oneself. "O Messenger of Allah, what is Ihsan?" He replied, 'You worship Allah as if you see Him, so if you do not see Him, then indeed He sees you. (HR Muslim 102).
  6. Encourage sincerity. Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: "May Allah have mercy on a servant who thinks in every matter. If it is for the sake of Allah then he will do it, and if it is for other reasons then he will end it."
  7. Soften the heart. "The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, then the other people also prayed, "O Allah, there was a daughter of my uncle who I really liked. I really want it too. But he rejected my love. Until several years passed, he came to me (because he was in need of money). I gave him 120 dinars. But the gift was on condition that he would sleep with me (aka: adultery). He wants too. Until when I wanted to have sex with her, it came out of her mouth, "It is not lawful for you to open the ring except in the right way (meaning: then it is lawful for marriage, not adultery)." I was immediately shocked and left him even though he was the one I loved the most. I also left the gold (dinar) that I had given him. O Allah, if I do that with the intention of really expecting Your face, then release the trouble we are facing from this big rock that covers us." The boulder suddenly opened again, but they still couldn't get out of the cave." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)
  8. Eliminate fear. They both said: "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will soon torture us or will increase beyond the limit". Allah said: "Do not worry both of you, verily I am with you both, I hear and see". (Surat Taha: 45-46).
  9. Gives peace. It is narrated from Anas, that Abu Bakr had related to him, he said: “While in the cave, I said to the Prophet (): 'If one of them looked under his feet, he would see us under his feet.' So he said: 'O Abu Bakr! What do you think about two people, the third of whom is Allah?'” (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)
  10. Cultivate patience. "And be patient (Muhammad) waiting for the decree of your Lord, for verily you are under Our control, and glorify the praises of your Lord when you wake up." (Surah At-Tur: 48)
  11. Encouraging. "And build the ship with the supervision and guidance of Our revelation, and do not talk to Me about the wrongdoers. Verily they will be drowned.” (Surah Hud: 37)
  12. Abdullah bin 'Abbas –radhiyallahu 'anhuma- narrated, one day I was behind the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. He said, "Son, I teach you a few sentences: Take care of Allah, He will take care of you. Take care of Allah, surely you will find Him in front of you. If you want to ask, ask Allah, and if you want to ask for help, ask Allah. (HR Tirmidhi)
  13. Get forgiveness. Verily, those who fear their Lord, whom they cannot see, they will receive forgiveness and a great reward. (Surat al-Mulk: 12)
  14. Heaven's reply. And bring heaven nearer to those who fear in a place not far (from them). This is what is promised to you, (ie) to every servant who always returns (to Allah) and keeps (all His regulations) (namely) those who fear God the Most Gracious while He is not seen (by him) and he comes with repentant heart, enter heaven safely, that is the day of eternity. They have in it what they want; and with Us there is addition. (Surat Qaf: 31-35).

Bad for those who are not muraqabah

First, hypocrite. "And do not argue for (defense of) those who betrayed him. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are always treacherous and sinful. They can hide from people, but they cannot hide from Allah, because Allah is with them, when one night they make a secret decision which He displeases. And Allah is All-Encompassing in what they do." (Surat an-Nisa: 107-108)

Second, remove goodness. It was narrated from Thauban that the Prophet said: "Indeed I know those of my Ummah who will come on the Day of Resurrection with goodness like Mount Tihamah, but Allah will make them like flying dust. Thauban said: "O Messenger of Allah, explain them to us and tell us more, so that we do not become of them without knowing." The king said: "They are your brothers and from your people, who worship at night like you, but they are people who, when alone, violate Allah's laws." (HR Ibn Majah)

How can you present muraqabatullah?

  1. Knowing God. "Have you not seen that Allah knows what is in the heavens and on earth? There is no secret conversation between three people, but He is the four. And there is no (conversation between) five people, but He is the six. And there is no talk of less or more, except that He is with them wherever they are. Then He will tell them on the Day of Resurrection what they did. Verily, Allah is All-knowing of all things." (Surat al-Mujadilah: 7)
  2. Knowing that our limbs will be witnesses. So that when they come to Hell, their hearing, sight and skin will bear witness against them about what they have done. And they said to their skins: "Why are you witnesses against us?" Their skins replied: "Allah, who made all things eloquent, has made us eloquent (too) speak, and it is He who created you in the first place and to Him you will be returned." You can never hide from your hearing, sight and skin testimony to you, even if you think that Allah does not know much of what you do. And that is your prejudice which you thought of your Lord, He has destroyed you, so be among the losers. (Surah Fussilat: 20-24).
  3. Believe in the existence of a recording angel. "He doesn't say a word but is by his side the guardian angel who is always ready (to take notes)." (Surat Qaf: 18).
  4. Believing nature will be a witness. On that day the earth will tell the news, because indeed your Lord has ordered (that) to him. (Surat az-Zalzalah: 5). The Messenger of Allah said: The news of the earth is that it bears witness to everything about what they do on it. Earth says: "He does this today, and so on." (HR Tirmidhi)
