Saying God's Name So That You Will Obey

DDHK. ORG – Saying Allah's name when feeding the master's child to obey, is that okay?

Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

chaplain please enlighten.

I work with non-Muslims and my job is taking care of children, the question is whether I (a Muslim) can feed foster children, I insert prayer before/after meals by mentioning Allah's name so that the child can obey etc.

Thank you Ustadz

Greetings, Fulanah

It is permissible to work with non-Muslims on the condition that the business being carried out does not originate from something clearly haraam and is safe from slander.

Among the jobs that are mostly carried out by Indonesian workers, especially women abroad, are household assistants (ART).

It is not surprising if they have a non-Muslim employer and their main task is to take care of household affairs, including feeding their employer's young children.

As a Muslim woman, it is recommended to read basmalah every time you are going to do a job including eating and drinking.
Then what is the ruling on if a Muslim household assistant prays and mentions Allah's name before feeding a non-Muslim employer's child with the intention that the child will become obedient and good in the future?

Back to the law whether a Muslim may pray for infidels or non-Muslims. Scholars agree that if the non-Muslim who is prayed for has died, then this is prohibited.
But if he is still alive, it is permissible for a Muslim to pray for good for non-Muslims. Like praying for good world affairs for them to be healthy in body, lots of wealth and children, and long life.

It is said that a Jewish man came to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam and said:

"Pray for me." So Rasulullah shallallãhu 'alaihi wasallam prayed:

“أَكْثَرَ اللَّهُ مَالَكَ ، وَوَلَدَكَ ، وَأَصَحَّ جِسْمَكَ ، وَأَطَالَ عُمُرَكَ”. (رواه ابن أبي شيبة)

"May Allah increase your wealth, your child, make your body healthy and extend your life." (Reported by Ibn Abi Syaibah)

Including what is permissible is if a Muslim prays for non-Muslims who are still alive, of course, to receive an abundance of mercy, forgiveness, guidance from Allah Subhanahu wata'ala.

From the explanation of the arguments above, of course it is permissible if there is a Muslim household assistant to pray and mention Allah's name when feeding a non-Muslim employer's child. Moreover, young children who have not yet reached puberty do not have sins because they have not yet become a mulatto (burdened with the burden of sharia law), whether they are children of Muslim parents or not.

Even Rasulullah shallallãhu 'alaihi wasallam is a person who always reminds small Muslim children to always pray before eating or drinking.

“From Umar bin Abi Salamah said, “When I was little, when I was under the care of Rasulullah ṣallallāhu 'alaihi wa sallam, once my hand went back and forth (while taking food) on a tray, then Rasulullah ṣallallāhu 'alaihi wasallam said to me, 'O little child! Say, 'Bismillah', eat with your right hand, and eat the food closest to you!' So this has always been my eating habit after that.” (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

Hope it is useful…

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
